Content advertising campaigns display ads on the Web pages of site owners who participate in a search engine's ad serving program. Google has AdSense, while Yahoo has Yahoo Publisher Network.

Rather than being placed at the side of search results, content pay-per-click advertisements are placed at the side of website content. The goal of these content ads is to show ads similar or relevent to the content on the website on which they appear.  This advertising option is only different in the location of the ads, the same Pay  Per Click concept applies.

There are several different ways in which Content Advertising can be done:

  1. Placement Targeted:  Advertise on sites you choose.  This is the "Placement" option of Content Advertising.
  2. Keyword Targeted:  Let the Search Engine place ads across its network by matching keywords of your service to the most relevent sites.
Also, several ad choices are available to the content advertiser.  For example, the content pay-per-click advertisements may appear as banners on large websites, or as text-only advertisements on local, subject related websites.  Specific options are:
  1. Text link ads.
  2. Image ads.
  3. Video ads.
